NAMM 2018: MOOG Announce New DFAM Analogue Percussion Synthesizer
Moog has announced the brand new Moog DFAM Semi-Modular Analog Percussion Synthesizer. This expands the range of Modular synthesizers and provides uses with analogue percussive sounds and effects.
The DFAM is the first addition to the Mother-32 family of synthesizers and presents an expressive hands-on approach to percussive pattern creation. It is unique in that it requires no experience to get started creating unique sounds.
The DFAM 'Drummer From Another Mother' is like nothing you've heard. Unlike typical drum machines, the DFAM does not have pre-set sounds but can instead seamlessly shift from one sound to the next depending on how you configure the onboard sequencers and patch settings. It has the potential to create bass sounds, simulated hi-hats, snares, through to wild effects and lead sounds, all seamlessly blending into one another under your control.
When paired with a Moog Mother-32 Analog Modular Synthesizer, the DFAM can open a world of rhythmic experimentation and lets you create pounding analogue rhythm and bass parts. This could be the ideal basis for a live performance or an inspirational tool for sound creation and composition.
The DFAM "presents an expressive hands-on approach to percussive pattern creation. It requires no patching, and absolutely no experience is needed for human-beings of any age to quickly begin synthesizing new and unique rhythmic compositions." - Moog
The DFAM is activated by a white noise generator which passes through wide-range analogue oscillators. Oscillator hard sync and FM cross-modulation invite effortless transitions between rhythmic pulsations, resounding bass and resonant bells in an instant. DFAM’s distinctive voice is then shaped by a versatile Moog Ladder filter with two selectable modes: Low Pass mode imparts impact and dimension to each sound it touches, while High Pass mode opens the door to naturally expressive strikes, spikes and "clangorous" accentuations.
The 100% analogue DFAM is an exciting new unit to add an easy-to-use world of sonic experimentation to your setup. The more you use it, the deeper the functionality you'll be able to access, and it comes with patch cables and 24 patch points for that very purpose.
