NAMM 2018: JodyJazz Super Jet Saxophone Mouthpieces and the Power Ligature
The JodyJazz Super Jet 7* Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece is one of the new range of Super Jazz mouthpieces by JodyJazz. They are silver-plated brass mouthpieces that have been developed specifically for modern players, covering jazz, rock, funk and smooth jazz genres.
The Super Jet range builds on the success of the Jet series, and delivers more power, edge, and an even easier altissimo range. They have great projection, a very free-blowing action, and a bright tone. Despite their easy playability and bright tone, the Super Jet mouthpieces have enough bottom-end to make them far more versatile than other mouthpieces in the same 'small chamber' category.
The Super Jet mouthpieces have a small step baffle design for power and projection, enough to cut over drums and guitars. The silver-plated virgin bell brass gives brightness, edge and cut; this is a sound that can get very funky with a real 'growl'. The mouthpieces have a thin tip rail and side rails for an instantaneous response. The shorter facing curve also makes altissimo playing easier, all the way up to the highest notes.
JodyJazz mouthpieces are state-of-the-art, made by experienced craftspeople as the result of the initial collaboration between Jody Espina and legendary sax player Santy Runyon. The new design features, along with the rigorous JodyJazz quality control, make the new Super Jet mouthpieces a versatile range that is perfect for the modern working musician. The mouthpieces are also available as an 8* Super Jet Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece, 9* Tenor Super Jet Saxophone Mouthpiece, and 10* Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece.
The previous alto Super Jet mouthpiece has proved to be a popular product and the new tenor range looks set to follow in its footsteps.
" I thoroughly enjoyed playing the Super Jet on lead alto parts in a big band. The mouthpiece blended nicely in the saxophone section and gave me all the power I could want… Its “wow” factor has implications that go far beyond mainstream jazz, though. In a funk, fusion or r&b setting, this mouthpiece has the potential to sound great while really “letting it rip” in all registers of the alto" - Bruce Gibson (Downbeat May 2017)
Elsewhere in the 2018 JodyJazz range, the new JodyJazz Power Ring Baritone Saxophone Ligature and JodyJazz Power Ring Clarinet Ligature gives players an improved ligature design with greater performance and lovely aesthetics. The new Power Ring has a concave inner design which reduces the touch points on the reed, helping to maximise vibration. With more vibration means increased harmonic content and a fuller sound. The ligatures are very simple to fit and work with all JodyJazz mouthpieces for a one-stop solution to an even better sound.
