NAMM 2018: Ibanez - New Acoustic Guitars and Extended Range Basses
Ibanez has really pushed the boundaries with its bass guitars this year. At every price point, Ibanez has included new 5 string models to help players of all abilities access those super-low tones only accessible to 5 and 6 string bass guitars.
For ambitious players, the 5 string GSR205SM is ideal for modern styles of music. Further up the range, the new BTB1825 Premium and 1826 give the look of a boutique-style instrument with 5 and 6 strings respectively, alongside the stunning design of a neck thru body that Ibanez do so well (almost making it a shame that your audience won't see the back of the guitar).
If 6 strings simply isn't enough, Ibanez has introduced the radical BTB747 7 String Bass 2018 which offers affordable access to both low-range and higher-range extended sounds.
For innovation in a different sense, the new SR370EF is a fretless 4-string bass at a highly accessible price point with dual coil pickups for modern tonality that could be your ideal fretless supplementary bass guitar.
In the premium SR range, Ibanez has followed its guitar colour innovations and brought into production some stunning new finishes, including the SR2600/2605, in 3D-looking Cerulean Blue Burst.
Ibanez has also embraced the multi-scale format fully and introduced the SRMS805 Muliti Scale 5 String Bass 2018, Deep Twilight / SRMS806 Multi Scale 6 String Bass 2018, Brown Toppers Burst. They each have fanned frets and are ideal for the modern player with extreme melodic demands.
Ibanez acoustic guitars have also taken a dramatic increase in output - in particular at the more affordable end of the spectrum - i.e. Ibanez AE205 Electro Acoustic 2018, Brown Sunburst High Gloss. A plethora of mahogany body guitars have been introduced in many different body shapes and styles.
At the opposite end of the price spectrum, the 'made in Japan', AE900 and AE800 look set to compete with other well-known brands and deliver a fantastic set of solid tonewoods and advanced construction bracing.
Bassists needn't feel left out either; Ibanez has provided some new acoustic low-range bass guitars for those stripped-back songs and acoustic sessions. And how about a Fretless AVNB1FE Electro Acoustic bass to get your creativity flowing...
