NAMM 2018: Focusrite Clarett Audio Interfaces Now Available with USB
The new Focusrite Clarett 2Pre USB Audio Interface is one of Focusrite's brand new Clarett Audio Interfaces launched at the beginning of 2018. Users with USB 2.0 and above can now access the same award-winning preamps, high-fidelity audio capture, and analogue "Air" preamp modelling that, up to now, has only been available to Thunderbolt users.
The original Focusrite Clarett 8Pre Thunderbolt interface won the MusicTech Gear of the Year 2015 award for Best Audio Interface. It offered Thunderbolt users unparalleled features at its price-point, including a huge 119db dynamic range, ultra-low noise, and precision 24bit/192 kHz audio conversion, alongside Focusrite's analogue "Air" circuit; an analogue model of the classic transformer-based Focusrite ISA mic pre.
Now in 2018, Focusrite has bowed to the desires of its customers and made the same award-winning technology available to Mac and PC users with USB 2.0 and above.
The new Clarett USB range features ultra-low noise (-128b) Clarett mic preamps, low-distortion, and a linear preamp design to deliver a clean, open and transparent sound. 119dB of dynamic range and a stunning 24bit/192kHz audio conversion brings these devices in line with some of the best audio interfaces on the market.
The Clarett devices are available as a 2 Pre,4 Pre and 8 Pre unit (2/4/8 preamps); letting you find the ideal solution for your requirements, whether that be a portable sound capture setup or a rack-mounted studio. Each individual preamp on every device has access to Focusrite's "Air" circuit which recreates the sound and (just as importantly) the response of the legendary ISA preamp. This will lend your recordings a professional 'sheen' that can only be achieved with quality microphone preamps.
The devices all feature ADAT to expand the range of inputs, and have multiple ins and outs to create monitor mixes and alternate outputs. This is all controlled via Focusrite's Control software, allowing you to easily configure routing and monitor mixes. The Control software can be run on Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch for a multitude of potential recording setups. The devices all feature low latency monitoring, even when using amp simulators and effects plug-ins.
The Clarett interfaces come with a suite of software including XLN Audio's Addictive Keys (based on 4 inspiring keyboard instruments), the Red Plug-in Suite (accurate models of Focusrite's Red 2 EQ and Red 3 Compressor), Softube Time and Tone Bundle (world-class reverb, delay, mastering and distortion), Ableton Live Lite, Loopmaster 2GB sample library, and more.
These devices aim to deliver Focusrite's acclaimed ultra-high audio fidelity, analogue microphone preamp sounds and feel, low latency performance and easy routing. They provide these features in a range of portable packages at an unparalleled price point.
While the New Year celebrations may have put you off seeing anymore claret for a while, Focusrite's Clarett Audio Interfaces are something that you'll definitely want to get your hands on.
Logic Pro Expert certainly thought so…
"…the Focusrite Clarett 8Pre offers outstanding value for money (really), the latency claims seem to stand up to scrutiny and the sound is gorgeous, especially when used with the air option. Add to this the ease of set-up and you have a killer offering."
