Metallica launch own record label
The iconic metal group revealed on their website that not only would the band take control of these recordings but any future material will be released through the new venture.
Metallica's decision to move to an independent label signals the end of their 28-year partnership with Warner Music Group with the band stating that the choice was made to allow them to take "control of all things".
"Forming Blackened Recordings is the ultimate in independence, putting us in the driver's seat of our own creative destiny. We're looking forward to making more music and getting it all out to you in our own unique way," the band added.
Metallica are due to release a new live DVD with Quebec Magnetic hitting shelves on December 10th, which features a host of tracks that were specially selected by fans attending the Canadian show.
They are not the first major band to go independent recently with Blink-182 also announcing their split with Interscope Records and are currently unsigned.
