Meet the SoundField NT-SF1 by RØDE - a New 360-Degree Ambisonic Microphone
The RØDE NT-SF1 microphone offers 360-degree audio technology developed by SoundField at an unprecedented price. Welcome to the world of 3D audio capture.
The RØDE NT-SF1 Ambisonic microphone is now available at Gear4music. This new surround sound microphone takes its design inspiration from SoundField - a pioneering company in the world of 360-degree audio capture during the late '70s.
The SoundField NT-SF1 by RØDE utilises 4 individual capsules and is built for film audio, sound design, video game audio, foley capture, and anyone else working with surround sound. An additional free desktop application provides extensive control over the microphone's four channels of audio, letting users manipulate the spatial layout with ease.
This microphone combines the surround-sound technology of SoundField with the expertise of RØDE, making an ideal entry-point into professional 3D audio capture.
The NT-SF1 uses four capsules to record audio in every direction. This 3D pickup pattern allows you to manipulate the entire sonic image in post-production, whether you're recreating a scene with pin-point accuracy or emphasising certain elements for your creative needs.
The NT-SF1 gives the potential to create a full 7.1.4 surround mix, making it perfect for immersive video, game audio, foley capture, feature films, or creating the most detailed orchestral recording imaginable.
UK-based SoundField invented the ambisonic microphone in 1978, helping to revolutionise 3D audio production, based on the pioneering work of Michael Gerzon. After being acquired by The Freedman Group in 2016 (home of RØDE Microphones), RØDE was given the go-ahead to develop its own ambisonic microphone with the same SoundField technologies...
"The SoundField by RØDE NT-SF1 marks the first collaboration between the two storied brands. The result is an incredible, broadcast-grade ambisonic microphone for less than USD$1000 – a world first." - RØDE
“The NT-SF1 rivals the finest ambisonic microphones in the world,” says The Freedman Group’s Founder and Chairman Peter Freedman AM. “Thanks to our unmatched investment in precision automated production, we can make these mics at a fraction of the cost of our competitors – and its sound quality is superior in every way. As for the ‘SoundField By RØDE’ plug-in – Wow! It is so powerful, intuitive and looks incredible. And it’s free!”
The NT-SF1 is built with four brand-new true condenser microphone capsules. Created by RØDE's headquarters in Sydney, the capsule is machined to incredible tolerances (less than 1 micron). This gives exceptionally low noise and incredible clarity for the most detailed recordings and enhanced dynamic range.
SoundField RØDE Plugin
A free application is available to download with the NT-SF1, giving you pin-point control over the sonic image. When you're working on post production, this plugin delivers the fine-control you'll need to manipulate your audio.
The NT-SF1 comes complete with a professional bundle of accessories including a custom suspension shockmount, blimp-style windshield, and furry wind cover. This kit makes it ideal for working on location.
If you're looking to enter the world of 3D audio, the RØDE NT-SF1 offers pristine audio capture at an unprecedented price point. From sound design to feature films, this bundle looks set to democratise the previously elite arena of surround sound audio.
