John Legend to lose polish
John Legend wants to record less "polished" tracks for his next album.
The 'Save Room' singer thinks most modern songs on the radio sound very autotuned and for his next solo album is planning to use some of the live recording techniques he recently employed on covers album 'Wake Up!' with The Roots.
He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Everything on the radio is very programmed, autotuned and polished in a certain way and I think the trick for my next album will be doing something that's really soulful that has some of that live feel, but also making it in a way that is commercially viable as well.
"I think what we're trying to prove with 'Wake Up!' is that you can make quality soul music, recorded largely live, which is commercially viable and I think that's the exciting thing about this."
John also said he would like to see more modern performers take up the politically charged stance the artists who wrote most of the original tracks included on 'Wake Up!' had.
He added: "People should make the music which speaks to what is going on in their lives and to be truthful.
"I don't think people should make political music for the sake of making it, but I do think it's more interesting for the fans and for the world if the artists have something to say and say it."Posted on 13 Oct 2010 06:45 to category : Music News
