Guitar world record attempt set for Sunday
An attempt will be made to set a new world record this weekend for the most number of guitarists playing in unison.
The Gitarrenweltrekord website states that organisers are hoping to attract at least 1,803 musicians to ZDF Fernsehgarten in Meinz, Germany on Sunday May 10th for a mass performance of Welcome to Europe by Gallery.
However, they may need many more people to turn up than that if they are to set a new record after the bar was raised significantly higher at the start of this month.
On May 1st at Wroklaw's Thanks Jimi Festival an estimated 6,000 people came together to play Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple.
Steve Morse, the band's guitarist, was one of those in attendance and discussed the event in his official blog.
"At the end of the song they all held up their guitars - mostly acoustic - and it looked like we were in a forest. Nothing but guitars for as far as you could see," he remarked.Posted on 6 May 2009 14:53 to category : Music News
