Guitar legend Jimi Hendrix hailed for 'weighty legacy'
Electric guitar legend Jimi Hendrix has been commended for leaving behind a substantial musical legacy.
The late musician, who died in 1970 at the age of 27, was listed as one of Metro's top ten famous personalities who passed away at a young age.
Hendrix was described by the newspaper as a "musical great" who was a "maestro" on the electric guitar.
His recorded output and live performances both drew praise from the publication, in particular his memorable performance of the Star Spangled Banner at the Woodstock Festival in 1969.
"Despite recording just three memorable albums, Hendrix left behind a weighty legacy," the Metro commented.
Jim Morrison of The Doors, who died in 1971 aged 27, was also included in the Metro's list as well, along with Ian Curtis of Joy Division and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.Posted on 6 Oct 2009 18:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
