George Thorogood hails Robert Johnson
George Thorogood has commended blues legend Robert Johnson for his accomplished use of the slide bar.
Speaking to MusicRadar, Thorogood said this was in part due to his special guitar technique, in particular his accomplished bottleneck playing.
"Robert Johnson was the strongest thing I'd heard since The Beatles," he commented.
"When that sound hit me, it stopped me in my tracks."
Thorogood added that Robert Johnson, who died in 1938 at the age of 27, was the Jimi Hendrix of his era and one of the best guitarists in history.
He went on to encourage electric guitar players who use a slide bar not to feel as if they should have to play gracefully.
Indeed, he noted that he sometimes deliberately roughs up his slide bars with sandpaper to give his Gibson a "scratchy" sound.Posted on 3 Aug 2009 10:57 to category : Band / Celebrity News
