Fender Justin Meldal-Johnsen Signature Bass Guitar Now Available
Fender announced the Justin Meldal-Johnsen Road Worn Mustang Bass at this year's Summer NAMM Show alongside the Jimi Hendrix Monterey Stratocaster and the George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster. Each signature model delivers artist-specified features on classic guitar designs.
Justin is a highly successful American session bassist and producer who has worked with a huge range of artists. His collaborative signature bass guitar replicates his own '67 Mustang bass and is built to span many different genres of music. This new model is aged with a Road Worn finish to look like it's already had a busy life of gigging.
The bass features a classic alder body with a smooth Road Worn Nitrocellulose Lacquer. The 30” scale gives the guitar a tight, focused tone while the modern 9.5”-radius fingerboard with rolled edges offers a familiar feel that will make any bassist feel right at home. Its Road Worn finish gives a worn-in aesthetic and will look like a true vintage instrument on stage.
Justin Meldal-Johnsen's playing credits include Beck, Nine Inch Nails, Drake and more. He has also produced the bands Jimmy Eat World, Paramour and M83, among others. As a musician, he labels himself a 'chameleon' and is happy to span the genres to 'serve the song'. Justin's '67 Mustang bass guitar is a vintage classic that was Leo Fender's last guitar design before he departed with Fender. The Mustang design became renowned in underground circles and has maintained an enduring popularity over the decades.
Justin's belief is that it is the musician who brings a versatile range of techniques to the gig, and that guitarists shouldn't rely on the latest gimmicks to serve the music. This is the reason why he uses a classic instrument that he knows inside and out. Justin's new Road Worn Mustang bass guitar features comfortable playing specifications and custom Seymour Duncan split single-coil pickups; it is a simple yet professional design that can cover any style of music.
Justin Meldal-Johnsen is proof that, if you give a musician an instrument that is comfortable, easy to play and has the scope for tonal adjustment, you can play any style of music you like and deliver a professional performance. The Road Worn Mustang Signature is a bass guitar that provides great playability, aesthetics and a simple yet versatile electronic setup; it is the ideal tool to transmit your own musical identity in whichever genre you choose.
