Extremely Limited-Edition Fender Adam Clayton Signature Bass Guitars
Fender has released an extremely limited-edition version of the Adam Clayton Signature Bass Guitar. It is available as a Precision Bass and a Jazz Bass, and both models come in an attention-grabbing Purple Sparkle finish.
Fender first collaborated with Clayton in 2014 and produced a signature model based on the '65 Sherwood Green Jazz Bass that featured on U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind tour. The signature model aimed to recreate the tonal punch of Clayton's bass, but featured new specifications designed to (in Adam's words) "make my beat-up guitar pretty."
Adam was happy with the result: "This is a great bass. I’ve been using it on the new album and I’m going to be playing it live.”
The new Adam Clayton limited-edition model takes the "pretty" guitar aesthetic to the next level, and its Purple Sparkle finish with maple neck contrast will really stand out on stage. Fender has only released 22 models in the UK, so these guitars will be a rare sight, albeit a very sparkly one.
Both the Jazz and Precision models feature Fender Custom Shop pickups with a '60s-voiced tonality. They are constructed from light-weight alder with a maple neck, and are designed for easy on-stage playability. The neck has a custom ''C'' profile and the bridge is a ''HiMass'' design for increased sustain and string vibration transference.
Clayton co-founded the band U2 in 1976 and has performed to millions of fans world-wide. He has a great self-taught style with a technique that combines elements of pop, rock, reggae, and Motown. Adam has been seen on many gigs and recording sessions with his trusty Fender Jazz and Precision Bass guitars. The combination of vintage playability and tonality has been a key part to his sound, and was what he wanted to recreate in his signature guitar with Fender.
These new instruments come complete with a hardshell case and will deliver a unique tonality and stand-out aesthetic, that is, if you're lucky enough to see one in person.
