Drummer Bobby Graham dies at 69
Bobby Graham performed on tracks such as Downtown by Petula Clark and Green Green Grass of Home by Tom Jones during his career, which spanned five decades.
Graham's performances can also be heard on Dusty Springfield's I Only Want To Be With You and I Believe by The Bachelors.
His most famous contribution to a record is probably on You Really Got Me by The Kinks, on which he performed in place of regular drummer Mick Avory.
However, Graham forgot the complicated introduction he had planned as soon as Dave Davies began playing the opening electric guitar riff on the song.
According to lead singer Ray Davies, he instead "just thumped one beat on the snare drum with as much power as he could muster".
Dave Davies has also spoken highly of Graham's performances behind the drum kit, describing him in his autobiography as a "great" and "inspirational" musician.Posted on 15 Sep 2009 14:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
