br /> Electric guitar players have been encouraged to connect with their emotions when they play the instrument.

Brian May, the guitarist from legendary rock band Queen, said he does not regularly practice for hours a day to improve his technique.

He told the Liverpool Daily Post that instead, he prefers to play what he feels and draw on what is inside him.

"Music is about how you feel," he commented.

"It's not about practising in a locked room."

May, who famously created his own electric guitar with the help of his father, added that music is a language that should convey some thought, sentiment or emotion.

"If you don't communicate, you can't create music," he stated.

The rock legend, who wrote hits including We Will Rock You, Hammer to Fall and Tie Your Mother Down, also recommended that electric guitar players try to find their own style and see where it can take them.
