Aston Microphones - Element

Aston Microphones is asking you to help with the design process of its next microphone. Already a regular collaborator with an external team of experts, Aston is now opening the design process to you - the very musicians, engineers, and producers who the mic is intended for.

Project Element – how does it work?

Every previous mic from Aston Microphones has been designed in conjunction with the Aston 33 panel – a group of 600 industry professionals. Using blind listening tests, Aston compares its own microphone to other branded models, asking its experts to vote on their favourite sound samples.

Through constant tweaking, voting, and development, the process only ends when Aston’s own mic is consistently voted as outperforming the competition.

Project Element works in much the same way, but this time it opens the doors to any experienced user, whether that’s musicians, producers, singers, engineers, or other professionals.

As each stage goes by, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favourite sound samples, before the prototype microphone is tweaked and tested again. Only once the prototype mic is consistently voted as the winner will Aston release the final microphone.

Through this process, Aston has been able to offer some truly incredible microphones at a fraction of the price of the big names. Now you can take part and get the microphone that you want!

How do I take part?

Simply register your details on the Aston Microphones website. You’ll need to have a good listening setup at home (studio monitoring) and a good set of ears.

During the process, you’ll download a series of WAV files and use the online platform to vote for your favourites.

When you register, make sure to select Gear4music as a participating retailer, so you’ll be able to pre-order a limited-edition version of the final microphone with a 25% discount!

You’ll also be awarded ‘Aston Family Developer’ status with a certificate, and the chance to download digital badges and logos to show your accreditation.

Aston Microphone Project Element Voting

Speaking about the Project Element process, James Young (Aston Microphones’ CEO) says,

“We’ve always delivered far better performance to price point than any other brand, in every single review of our mics around the world you’ll hear that recurrent theme; “how did you guys make them sound so good for so little?!” … this time I’m expecting we’re going to raise that bar even further. It’s very exciting. Element is going to be an awesome mic…”
