Here’s an update on our donation of musical instruments to the Changing Lives charity.

We just wanted to update you on last week’s project. Music matters even more in times like these, so we were more than happy to help those in need by donating instruments and equipment to the Changing Lives charity.

Changing Lives and Gear4music

Changing Lives have multiple shelters that help people of all ages and backgrounds rebuild their lives and put together a new future. So, when we heard that they would welcome the donation of musical instruments – we knew there was something we could do.

We believe that music helps with wellbeing, so we donated a selection of instruments and resources to Changing Lives to help those in challenging circumstances.

Instruments put to great use

A week later, we were delighted to hear that the instruments had been an immediate hit upon their arrival! Here are just a few of the things we’ve heard:

“We are planning a Rock the Lock down in the communal room once this is lifted - both staff and residents can't wait!”Young Person’s Accommodation

“Once we can get going we will get a residents to play the instrument and take a video!”Adult Accommodation

“Thank you so much again for sorting this out, the residents will love it.”- Women and Children’s Accommodation

Community Spirit

We're really happy to hear that people are enjoying getting stuck into the instruments. There is also a larger story to tell. It’s become apparent through this scheme that, during a time of great vulnerability, local communities have come together to support each other.

This is something that’s easy to miss, but families, businesses, charities, key workers - we are all playing our part to help one another.

This is one message we received from one of the staff at Changing Lives:

“Talking to colleagues working in the hostels it was evident how challenging and stressful it was for them trying to support bored residents who displayed little regard for social distancing or, understandably, stay in their rooms with nothing to do but stare at the walls.

One huge positive out of this dark crisis has been the community spirit. On my street, the neighbours have started a WhatsApp group chat and I posted a request asking for any donations that would support our residents who were struggling spending long periods of time in isolation with little to no form of entertainment or hobby resources.

The response has been wonderful, amazing! I also made enquiries with a local model shop whether they were still doing business and their immediate response was - “we want to donate what do you need”. Fabulous! The community’s response to the needs of the homeless community at this time has been unbelievably uplifting and feels me with hope going forward.”

So, thank you for reading this update – we’re greatly pleased to hear how well the instruments have been received. We’ve never stopped being amazed at how universal music is. Listening or playing - a simple thing is still so powerful.
