Absynth 5 Released and Reviewed
Sound on Sound Magazine has recently looked at just what the latest version of this popular software synthesiser has to offer.
A well known advantage of Absynth over many software synths is that it can run as a stand-alone version or as a plug-in instrument, as well as a plug-in effect to treat incoming audio.
With this in mind, it should be of no surprise to learn that Absynth has remained a popular choice with musicians and producers seeking experimentation with their sounds.
As Sound On Sound Magazines reviewer commented. "Absynth has long been the first port of call for musicians searching for unique ambient, atmospheric and evolving sounds."
A new addition in Absynth 5 is the mutator function which has been built with these creative music-makers in mind.
You use this function be firstly selecting a preset that you wish to mutate, and then selecting a series of tags such as Instrument, Timbre and Genre to find presets you wish to combine your original sound with.
The mutate controls then allow you to combine attributes of the original and target presets to create new sounds.
Overall, Sound On Sound Magazine were highly impressed with both the mutator function and the Absynth software as a whole.
The large library, mutation possibilities and Absynth's ability to run as a stand-alone version, plug-in instrument, and plug-in effect all combine to make this one incredibly versatile software synth.
"The fifth version of Absynth introduces even more sound-mangling features and aims to be far more user-friendly than its predecessors."
"If you've not yet succumbed to its many unusual charms, there's never been a better time to take the plunge."
The complete Absynth Software can also be found within Native Instruments Komplete, and in part can be found within the Kore Electronic Experience.
