It was the first Les Paul Gallagher witnessed in person, and upon seeing it, he made a quick cup of tea and wrote \u201cSlide Away\u201d in the space of 20 minutes.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This Les Paul\u2019s lineage doesn\u2019t just go back to Johnny Marr; the guitar also belonged to Pete Townshend of The Who and Joe Walsh of The Eagles before that. What\u2019s more, before it became a burst, it was a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gear4music.com\/Guitar-and-Bass\/Gibson-Les-Paul-Standard-50s-P90-Gold-Top\/2XA0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Goldtop<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">An altercation at a Newcastle gig in 1994 infamously resulted in damage to the guitar when someone invaded the stage... and Noel retaliated with the guitar. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When Gallagher took the guitar to get repaired by a luthier in New York, it was revealed that the neck didn\u2019t actually belong to it. He assumed that at some point Townshend had smashed it up, resulting in what he described as a \u201cFrankenstein of a guitar.\u201d <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><hr \/><h4><span data-contrast=\"none\">6. 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"134245418\":true,\"134245529\":true,\"335559738\":80,\"335559739\":40}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Following the damage done to the first Marr Les Paul, Gallagher asked for a replacement guitar to finish the tour. The 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom was used on <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Queen Is Dead<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and Marr thought it suitable for Gallagher to use, given its heavier weight and sound.
