He&#8217;s known for his partnership with Tama which was established over 30 years ago! Prior to this collaboration, during the early &#8217;80s, he used a Camco kit up until roughly 1983 for the <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Kill &#8216;Em All<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> era. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This kit was stolen, so Lars borrowed multiple drum kits, such as a Ludwig, before transitioning to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gear4music.com\/Drums-and-Percussion\/Tama-Imperialstar-22-5pc-Drum-Kit-Blacked-Out-Black\/5BJ1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Tama Imperialstar<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> for the<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Ride the Lightning <\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tour. This set had mahogany shells and was used extensively on early tours. The kit was a nine-piece setup, and the mirror chrome wrap was customised just for him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From 1984 to 1986, Ulrich adopted the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gear4music.com\/Drums-and-Percussion\/Tama-Superstar-Classic-Exotix-22-7pc-Gloss-Garnet-Lacebark-Pine\/39FE#6f3a\/embedded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Tama Superstar<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, crafted from birch, for the <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Master of Puppets<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> tour. Tama sent him two Superstars for this era, with different finishes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Following this, he chose to use both a <\/span>Tama Artstar<span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and the <\/span>Tama Granstar II<span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in the late &#8217;80s, which marked the peak of his early career. The kit included massive 24-inch kick drums.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In the mid-&#8217;90s, Ulrich moved to the Tama Starclassic (maple),<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> a kit he continues to use today &#8211; and you&#8217;ll recognise it from its bright yellow finish and striking black hardware.
