Electro-Voice have announced their latest offering: their first-ever portable PA speaker, the Everse 8. What new features and innovations can it offer touring musicians? Let’s take a closer look and find what makes Everse 8 stand out.

Overview of the Electro-Voice Everse 8

The Electro-Voice Everse 8 is a compact, portable, and adaptable PA speaker for any musician on the road. Lightweight and easy to carry, it’s perfect for touring acts like singer-songwriters and even full bands when used with a mixer to expand its inputs.

Electro-Voice have drawn from their 90+ years of experience and put a lot of innovation and ambition into the Everse 8, making it one of the most feature-packed and formidable small-format PA speakers available.

Durable and lightweight housing

The Everse 8 features a tough but lightweight polypropylene enclosure that makes it very easy to transport and store, saving you space and time for setup and teardown.

Electro-Voice have also included a weatherised plastic cover to go over its rear inputs. This makes it partially weatherproofed with an IP43 rating that protects against dust, splashes, and light rain.

Powerful sound

Electro-Voice have taken a fresh approach to woofer and tweeter design, giving the Everse 8 a present sound with well-defined bass despite its size and weight. This powerful low-end makes it great for DJs on the go.

A large part of the speaker’s clarity is down to Electro-Voice’s redesigned Signal Synchronised Transducer (SST) ports. These ports help to focus the sound of its eight-inch woofer for bass that’s punchy but doesn’t swallow the rest of the instruments.

Pairing this with a titanium tweeter with constant-directivity waveguiding makes the Everse’s sound focused and consistent above all else.

Its sound works well on everything from intense metal to soft, intricate ballads while preserving the dynamics of the original material.

There’s also exceptional speech clarity, making it well-suited to musicians and spoken-word performances.

The speaker’s kick-back position helps enhance its clarity when positioned on the floor, improving dispersion when there’s no speaker stand.

Bluetooth connectivity

Bluetooth connectivity via Electro-Voice’s QuickSmart app opens the capabilities of this speaker, allowing you to access its wealth of features more easily.

Not only does this let you stream audio from your phone or tablet, but you can also stream audio to two Everse 8 units at once – perfect for playing back music before a show, or for parties and outdoor events.

Bluetooth mixing

The QuickSmart app isn’t just for linking speakers, though. Loaded with extensive DSP developed in collaboration with Dynacord, the Everse 8 lets you create full mixes from the palm of your hand with any smartphone or tablet.

Using the app’s built-in digital mixer, you can control volume of all four of the Everse 8’s channels. It also allows you to adjust the 3-band channel EQ, complete with presets and graphic and parametric 7-band EQ for more precise sound sculpting – you’ll be able to make excellent-sounding live mixes in moments.

Additionally, there are effects per channel, covering a wide range of different reverbs, delays, and modulation. Metallic plate reverbs, broad halls, stereo ping-pong delays, chorus, and flangers, as well as many combinations of these effects, let you add space and character to your sounds to really bring your instruments to life.

There are plenty of additional DSP features for cleaning up your mixes and creating the space you need. Feedback suppression helps prevent harsh and sudden bursts of noise for clear shows, while adjustable audio ducking ensures signals can be turned down in reaction to audio from a channel of your choice. This allows space for every element to work and lets you make announcements during a show.

Power

As well as a mains power option, this portable PA speaker features a powerful rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can operate continuously for up to 12 hours on a single charge.

This is all housed in a convenient and replaceable port that you can access without needing to use any tools.

Plus, internal protection circuitry prevents the battery from ever fully discharging. This means that the speaker can sit unused in storage and still work the second you finish charging it back up again!

It also has a 12-volt power port for connecting powered accessories, such as wireless receivers, and a USB to power your phone.

Packed with connectivity, the Everse 8 can comfortably fit into any venue with whatever equipment you have.

Just the start for Electro-Voice…

With the Everse 8, it’s clear to see that Electro-Voice have gone to great efforts to create a fully-rounded and show-ready portable speaker. Since this is the company’s first portable PA speaker, Everse 8 is sure to be just the beginning of this kind of innovation!
