Weezer to tour the high seas
The alternative indie-rock band Weezer have announced plans to go on a special kind of a tour – at sea.
Called the Weezer Cruise, the band will sail from Miami to the island of Cozumel, which is just off the coast of Mexico.
They will perform on four stages that will be specially set up around the stage, which includes the pool deck as well as the ship's purpose-built indoor theatre.
Dubbed as a "floating festival", Weezer will be joined by a host of bands and artists, including Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, Gene Ween, Yuck, Wavves, the Antlers and Free Energy.
The band wrote on their website: "That’s right – Weezer is hitting the open seas. It’s going to be our own floating music festival on a cruise ship.
"All of the bands will be performing in stages around the ship, festival style, so you can catch any or all of them during the entire trip to Cozumel and back."
This type of tour is not new. The idea of a festival cruise has found itself becoming increasingly popular as stars try to come up with original ideas of performing and bringing in revenue.
Steve Earle, Richard Thomas and Wainwright lll have all tried and tested this new distinct approach to performing.
