Vox AC30 amplifiers play a significant part in Brian May's unique guitar sound, according to one expert.
Breaking down the Queen guitarist's set-up in an article for the Gibson website, Dave Hunter, author of The Guitar Amp Handbook, suggested that Vox amps were a key factor in May's trademark tone - although there are other contributors.
Mr Hunter pointed to a specially modified amp made by Queen bassist John Deacon as perhaps the "one secret ingredient that flavours the stew more than any other", also referring to May's use of a Rangemaster Treble Booster and his utilisation of a filed-down sixpence as a pick.
May's guitar itself also has a part to play. Known as the Red Special, the musician famously built the instrument himself along with his father using wood from an old mantelpiece.
Other electric guitars used by the artist over the years include a Fender Telecaster, a Jackson Randy Rhoads and a Gibson Flying V.
