Virtuoso cellist encourages youngsters to play
Posted on 5th Feb 2009 11:41 to category Band / Celebrity News
Virtuoso musician Julian Lloyd Webber has been helping out with the MusicQuest campaign to encourage youngsters to take up classical music.
The cellist, who is the younger brother of Andrew Lloyd Webber, lent his support to the three-year initiative while in Great Yarmouth this week to perform the Elgar Cello Concerto with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra at the local Hippodrome, the Norwich Evening News reports.
It pictured Lloyd Webber, who received a Brit award for his performance of the Elgar piece in 1985, playing his cello alongside a group of school children, several of whom were holding violins.
Backed by the Prince's Foundation for Children & Arts, MusicQuest is supported by music instrument manufacturer Yamaha Music UK and is funded by Classic FM Music Makers.
A series of concerts and workshops are to be held as part of the campaign between February 9th and February 13th in Great Yarmouth, Kilmarnock, Middlesbrough and Stoke on Trent.
