Violin playing 'an amazing experience'
A youngster who has been learning the violin has described being able to play the instrument as an "amazing" experience.
Christy, a member of the West Everton Superstrings Orchestra in Liverpool, first started to play the violin at Faith primary school, where a pioneering experiment is taking place.
Inspired by Venezuela's El Sistema intiative, in which poor students are given access to instruments and encouraged to join an orchestra, Faith primary is getting everyone at the school, including teachers and support staff, to learn an instrument, reports the Observer.
Christy said learning the violin had been fantastic and she has continued with the instrument since leaving the school.
"I'd never heard a violin and it wasn't like any feeling I knew - it made you want to play and dance at the same time," she recalled.
"It's grand, really grand."
Earlier this year, TV presenter Katie Derham told the Independent how much she had enjoyed relearning the violin for her appearance on Sky Arts show First Love.
