Vaughan Williams's famous violin piece The Lark Ascending has been voted number one in Classic FM's Hall of Fame list for the third year in a row.
The 1914 composition for violin and orchestra, which tells the story of a bird rising into the sky, topped the poll ahead of Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2, Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5.
Other famous string pieces inside the top ten include Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 and Elgar's Cello Concerto, in seventh and eighth place respectively.
Mozart had the highest entry for a piece of music focused on a wind instrument, with his Clarinet Concerto placing sixth for the second consecutive year.
The top 80 classical works were counted down on Monday (April 13th). Only two film soundtracks made it into the final part of the 300-strong list, Shore's The Lord of the Rings (32nd) and Hess's Ladies in Lavender (58th).
