Venue which has launched numerous guitar groups faces closure
Posted on 25 Sep 2010 12:00 to category : Music News

A venue which has become a mecca for guitar groups since opening in the 1940s is facing closure.
London's 100 Club, which has welcomed the likes of David Bowie, the Sex Pistols and Oasis to its stage, may have to close its doors for good at Christmas.
Owner Jeff Horton said that although the rock haunt is "as popular as ever", rising overheads are making it commercially unviable to continue.
Describing the situation as "insane", he blamed local and national government for making it difficult to run a small club.
"What the 100 Club needs is a buyer or major sponsor to step forward. Barring that, we're closing at Christmas," Mr Horton told the Evening Standard.
A spokeswoman for Westminster Council told BBC 6 Music that it is not a matter for the authority as it does not set rents.
The closure would be another blow for the area's live music scene - the nearby London Astoria shut in 2008 to make way for a new transport development.
