Van Halen recording with Roth
Van Halen are recording with David Lee Roth for the first time since 1984.
The lead singer with the 'Jump' rockers had originally been replaced almost 27 years ago, after a bitter split. An attempted reunion in 1996 fell apart before any new material could be released, but he then went on to rejoin the band in 2007, and this is the first time they have recorded new tracks together as a group.
The 80s rockers are in the studio with producer John Shanks, who has recently worked with fellow US rock stars Bon Jovi and UK boy band Take That.
No official statement has been made by the group, but John made a post on twitter reading: "here we go kids.....vh (sic)."
He also posted a picture of guitarist Eddie Van Halen's distinctive guitar amp, customised with his initials.
Van Halen - which also includes Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony - have had singers including Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone in the period in which Roth wasn't part of the group.
While David is back in the band, it is not a full reunion, as bassist Michael Anthony has not rejoined and is presently replaced by and Eddie's 19-year-old son Wolfgang Van Halen.
Van Halen were one of the most successful rock bands in the world in the early 80s, with hits including 'Eruption' and 'Aint' Talkin' 'Bout Love'.Posted on 25 Jan 2011 09:45 to category : Music News
