Van Halen record named as greatest guitar album of all time
Van Halen's self-titled 1978 record has been named as the greatest guitar album of all time.
In a rundown of the 50 best records in this category, Gibson named the LP above Are You Experienced? and Led Zeppelin IV.
There were other places in the top ten for the likes of Appetite for Destruction by Guns N' Roses and Back in Black by AC/DC.
According to Gibson, the 1970s was the richest time for great guitar music, with 27 of the albums in its top 50 coming from this category.
Only one record from the past ten years made it into the list, with Elephant by The White Stripes placed in 43rd position.
Earlier this year, Gibson named Jimi Hendrix as the greatest guitarist of all time.
"Never has a guitar player appeared so 'at one' with his instrument – his live shows were more out-of-body experiences than performances," it said.
