Unheard Mozart composition to be performed
A concert of the composer's work is to be held later this month in Salzburg. Not a rare event, you might think, until you consider that it will feature the première of a previously lost piece of music by the world famous musician.
According to the Mozart Foundation the new piece has been identified as having been composed by the Austrian legend. It was likely written while he was still in his early teens.
The musical composition "matches the others you can find from the young Mozart", according to one expert.
2006 also saw a lost Mozart work re-appear, so perhaps the composer's many admirers can hope this isn't the last time he'll rise from the dead, in musical terms.
The piece – which is for the piano – was found in an old 18th century book. A lecturer at Innsbruck University discovered it in Austria. The music had been written into the 1780-dated book by hand.
March 23rd is the date when the Marriage of Figaro composer's unheard piece will be presented to the public.
