U2 playing conventional rock and roll on tour
U2 play their songs in a more stripped back, conventional rock and roll way when they are live on stage.
This is according to bass guitar player with the band Adam Clayton, who told Rolling Stone magazine that they can be guilty of overworking some tracks.
He pointed to the 2009 release Get On Your Boots as an example, saying the multi-layered approach in the recording studio could have left their audience puzzled.
"I think we probably worked on it and worked on it and worked on it, and instead of executing one idea well, I think we had probably five ideas in the song, and it just confused people," Clayton observed.
Because of this, when they have their musical instruments out on stage they try to streamline the process.
Lead singer Bono added that some of their fans do not seem to appreciate their clubbier tracks they make on some albums.
U2 are currently on the 360 Degrees tour, which just became the highest grossing in history.
So far, it has made $558 million (£341 million), which takes it ahead of The Rolling Stones' A Bigger Bang tour with 25 stadium venues left to play.
