U2 make surprise appearance in London
U2 may be more comfortable in stadiums than concert halls these days, but the Irish megastars proved they could still cut it at more intimate venues during Island Records' 50th birthday celebrations.
Bono and the boys made a surprise appearance on stage for the encore of Baaba Maal's Island Life show at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire on Thursday evening.
Fans of U2 are used to seeing The Edge with a Fender Stratocaster or vintage Gibson Les Paul, but he was armed only with an acoustic guitar as the four-piece were joined by Senegalese star Maal for a version of One.
The 1,000-strong crowd also saw them perform a cover of Bob Marley's One Love and a semi-acoustic version of their 2004 number one single Vertigo.
U2 will be back in London in August when they play two nights at Wembley Stadium as part of a world tour which also includes shows in Glasgow, Sheffield and Cardiff.Posted on 29 May 2009 14:49 to category : Band / Celebrity News
