Trumpet players advised to listen to other musicians
Classical trumpet soloist Alison Balsom has advised learners to attend lots of classical music concerts.
According to the award-winning musician, aspiring trumpet players need to feed their passion by seeing other performers at work.
Speaking to the Times, she said this would help to open their ears to various styles of playing the instrument.
"People always think it's just about the number of hours practised," Balsom commented.
"But for me, it was much more about getting inspired by other musicians."
She recommended that people go to as many concerts as they can and to focus on more than their chosen instrument.
Balsom, 31, said this would help to make them "more interesting" musicians further down the line.
The trumpet player has so far released six albums and received accolades such as the Best Female Artist at this year's Classical Brit awards.
Her packed schedule currently includes upcoming performances in Switzerland, China, the UK and Austria.Posted on 11 Nov 2009 15:00 to category : Instruments News
