Tribe music instruments in India to be conserved
The tradition, history and skills unique to music instruments used by tribal communities in India are to be conserved so that future generations will not only be able to explore the legacy of these instruments but also have the knowledge needed to take up playing them.
In recent times, with the advent of technology and outside influences like Western media, an interest in these fantastic music instruments in Gujarat has decreased dramatically, reported the Times of India.
The Bhasha Research and Publication Centre, which is based in Tejgad near Chhota Udepur, has set up a conservation project to protect these ancient traditions surrounding these instruments with the support of the union ministry of tribal affairs.
Nishith Mehta, a music composer and keen advocate of this endeavour, told the newspaper: "If musical instruments like kansi joda, motu dhol, nagaru, Vaans Madal, Malunga, Mohri Pavo, Gangadi and Surando are not documented, future generations will never hear about them."
The Bhasha Research and Publication Centre was founded in 1996 for the study, documentation and conservation of languages not protected by the constitution of India.
