Top ukulele player passes on skills to school children
Steven Sproat, who told the BBC back in June that the recent surge in sales had made the instrument too popular, was said to have been impressed by the enthusiasm of the youngsters for the diminutive instrument.
Such has been the popularity of the ukulele that a new club has been set up at Thorn Brook Primary, the Epworth Bells & Crowle Advertiser reported.
David Beedall, office manager at the school, told the news provider: "The idea was to get the children interested in music and play music in a simplistic manner. The ukulele is something they can strum along to and sing along to very easily.
"I hoped a few kids would turn up - but they are flying through the door. They love it."
The sudden popularity of the ukulele has been put down to cheaper prices and the fact it is a relatively easy string instrument to pick up quickly.
