The Strokes to play the Isle of Wight Festival
Posted on 30th Nov 2009 17:42 to category Band / Celebrity News
New York rock band The Strokes will be following in the footsteps of artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and The Moody Blues when they take to the stage at the Isle of Wight Festival in June 2010.
The band, comprised of bassist Nikolai Fraiture, Fabrizio Moretti on the drums, vocalist Julian Casablancas and electric guitar players Albert Hammond Jr and Nick Valensi, will be joined at the festival by Pink, Blondie, Squeeze and Orbital.
John Giddings, promoter of the event, commented: "Ever since I heard the first Strokes album, I've wanted them for the Isle of Wight."
They will take to the stage on June 12th 2010 as the headline act at Seaclose Park.
Lead guitarist Valensi's distinctive sound on the first album Is This It was created using an Epiphone guitar with Gibson P-94 pick-ups.
In an interview with Epiphone in 2004, he described his guitar as the "greatest instrument never made" because Gibson had not released a semi-hollow model with P-90 pick-ups.
Epiphone soon launched a signature model called the Nick Valensi Riviera P-94.
