The Strokes reveal new album material is already underway
The Strokes could soon be releasing a new studio album, even though their last album Angles came out earlier this year in April.
Their last two albums had a five-year gap between them, so the news comes as a surprise to fans, but a welcome one nevertheless.
No release date has been set yet for the untitled album, but the band teased fans by saying in an interview with Rolling Stone that if it were possible to release it tomorrow, then they would seriously consider it.
The indie rock band, who hail from New York, revealed that in-between promotion of their current album and festival dates, they are not only jamming together on their music instruments, but planning a "very long tour".
Nikolai Fraiture, the band's bass guitar player, told the magazine: "We're trying not to lose momentum by taking time off and then having to reboot the whole system. Hopefully, we keep that up."
The New Yorkers will continue to produce new music in a style similar to the one which resulted in Angles.
This was a very collaborative affair with each member of the outfit bringing in ideas and putting them together in the studio.
UK fans will get to see the Strokes this summer in August when the band return to headline at both Leeds Festival and Reading Festival.
