Copeland, who hit the drum kit on hits such as Roxanne, Don't Stand So Close To Me and Every Breath You Take, reunited with his former bandmates on a world tour in 2007 and 2008.
However, he has told AFP that while every member of the group enjoyed the experience, they are all content to leave it there.
"It was a fantastic tour and it was just perfect," he commented.
"We were able to appreciate our own music in a whole new way."
Copeland added that the band were very proud of themselves by the time the tour ended.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that former Police frontman Sting will fire the starter's gun at this year's Great North Run.
The bass guitar player said he is "delighted" to be given this honour, as the event has become a "real success story" for Tyneside.
