The La's plan long-awaited second album
Posted on 29th May 2009 10:51 to category Band / Celebrity News
Lee Mavers is to reform legendary Liverpool indie band The La's - but he will be the only original member in the new line-up.
It appears that Mavers, the songwriter responsible for the band's distinctive guitar sound and vocals, has now decided it is time for a full-scale return to action, complete with that long-awaited second album.
He has already recruited Drew McConnell, the bass player from Babyshambles, and is planning to hold auditions for a new drummer and another guitarist.
McConnell told BBC 6 Music that the new line-up would perform at Sheffield's Tramlines Festival in July before embarking on a UK tour, playing songs such as There She Goes and Timeless Melody from the classic debut album.
"At the end of that tour we're going to go in and record the second record, which is all written already," he added.
Despite their relatively small back catalogue, The La's have been every bit as influential as their similarly non-prolific contemporaries The Stone Roses, providing inspiration for guitar bands such Oasis, The Coral and The Libertines.
