The Futureheads new single cost just £200 to record.
The four-piece British band - who are set to release their upcoming record in the new year - insist is difficult to tell that 'Struck Dumb' was made on such a tight budget.
The record, which was given away for free from their official website for a period of two weeks, has already received a positive response from fans.
Singer Barry Hyde said: "We're really happy with it actually. I'm so pleased we've gone with 'Struck Dumb' as the first sound people are hearing.
"We did it ourselves in a £200 a day demo studio in Newcastle but it sounds great. We produced it ourselves and it feels like we're starting off in quite a confident way."
Guitarist Ross Millard said the band had gone into un-chartered territory with the new album.
He added to BBC 6 music radio: "You've got some straight up, almost just dumb, punk-rock songs that are a continuation of the last record.
"But then there's some really crazy stuff on there as well, stuff that we've never done before."
