The Edge: Tax claims are inaccurate
U2's hat-wearing electric guitar player has hit back at claims that the band are tax dodgers.
The Edge felt compelled to write a letter to the Baltimore Sun in response to another letter that was published by the newspaper.
He said that the letter by Simon Moroney contained so many inaccuracies that it was "pointless to list them all" and that they were possibly libellous accusations.
It has been claimed that U2 moved part of their business operation to Holland, which The Edge, real name David Evans, denied.
He told the newspaper: "For the record U2 and the individual band members have a totally clean record with every jurisdiction to which they are required to pay tax and have never been and will never be involved in tax evasion."
This follows on from a huge furore about their exact tax status, which attracted even bigger attention when campaigners Art Uncut launched a protest during the band's historic headline set at Glastonbury Festival last month.
It was the first time U2 had played at the festival. They were meant to perform last year only for it to be cancelled after Bono suffered a back injury.
