The Drums return Surfing to their set

The Drums stopped playing their biggest hit to make a point.

The US group dramatically dropped their biggest hit, 'Let's Go Surfing' from their set when they played at the UK's Reading and Leeds festivals this summer, but have recently re-added it to their live shows, saying they only omitted it because they didn't want it to overshadow their other work.

Singer Jonathan Pierce told BANG Showbiz: "I think we sort of made our point and that's what we wanted to do really. We never said we'd never play it again.

"I think to be honest we were playing a lot of festivals and somehow we'd play a festival where you could clearly tell the crown loved you and loved all the songs and they were there for a show and not the song. Other places people would be leaving and we'd be in the middle of the set, because they'd only come for that track."

The band - which also features Jacob Graham, Connor Hanwick and live guitarist Tom Hanlow - have previously admitted none of them surf, and don't feel comparisons to surf music groups such as The Beach Boys have any basis, as they are a pop band.

Jacob added: "We have 25 songs and one of them mentions surfing. I've heard surf records and they have big, lush guitars, while our guitars are really wiry - our music sounds nothing like it.

"We're nothing like surf music, it's just that one word in that song."

The Drums are on tour across Europe throughout December.
