Teenager gearing up for Young Drummer of the Year competition
A Welsh teenager has spoken about his preparations for the forthcoming final of the Young Drummer of the Year competition.
Ollie Harding, 16, from Builth Wells, is to compete against nine promising musicians in Leamington Spa in February and told BBC News he has been practising for two hours a day ahead of the event.
The finalists are required to perform a set piece with a band, a two-minute drum solo and accompaniment to a track they will only hear on the morning of the competition. Ollie said he is taking the event very seriously and is even learning the piano to help improve his all-round musical abilities.
He is hoping to take the 2011 crown in a show which has been running every year since 2002. With the exception of the 2009 event which was held in Telford, the contest has always taken place in the Royal Spa Theatre in Leamington Spa.
