Taylor Hawkins: Drummers can improve through writing songs
Foo Fighters' star Taylor Hawkins has revealed that he thinks drummers can become more proficient on their main musical instrument by learning to write their own songs.
Speaking to Consequence of Sound about his side project Coattail Riders, Hawkins said that he has been attempting to pen his own tunes since he was at school.
He advised other drummers that going through the process could also prove to be useful for them.
"It will make you a better musician, better drummer, better everything, if you just try and figure out how you write songs," Hawkins said.
Explaining his own songwriting process, Hawkins said that he normally sits down with an acoustic guitar, works out the lyrics and melody and then records a small demo to see if the song is worth taking any further.
Last week, Hawkins told Spinner Music that his Foo Fighters bandmate Dave Grohl had helped him with the arrangements to many of the songs on the Coattail Riders' new record, Red Light Fever.Posted on 19 Apr 2010 16:45 to category : Band / Celebrity News
