'Talks happening' over possible American Idiot film
A film version of the American Idiot musical based on the hit Green Day album is under discussion, it has been claimed.
Speaking to the New York Times, Michael Mayer, the director of the musical, said talks about taking the production to the big screen are ongoing and he is hopeful the plan could go ahead.
He added that Green Day frontman and electric guitar player Billie Joe Armstrong would be a natural choice for the role of St Jimmy in the film version, as the star is currently playing the part on Broadway.
Armstrong added that one of his future ambitions is to produce a musical from scratch and said he believes his song-writing skills are a good match for the art form.
"The kind of music that I like is very immediate and very catchy and you identify with it quickly, and I try to write that way. And in musical theatre it's the same thing - you identify with the songs immediately, the good ones anyway," the electric guitar player stated.
Green Day have recently announced they will be bringing out a live album featuring tracks recorded on their 2009-10 world tour in March.
