Superstar musicians contribute to David Lynch's new compilation album
The surrealist filmmaker David Lynch is launching a new compilation album featuring some of the biggest stars in the music business.
Titled Download For Good: Music That Changed The World Volume 1, the album features Amanda Palmer – who rose to fame as a piano player in The Dresden Dolls – rock star Iggy Pop and the renowned singer-songwriter Tom Waites.
The proceeds from sales of the album will go to the David Lynch Foundation, which was established to help promote the benefits of transcendental meditation.
It encourages schools, prisons, homeless shelters and the army to take up the practice.
Speaking to NME, Palmer said: "We're trying to spread the word of meditation to younger people.
"I think it's one of those things that will hopefully just make the world a more peaceful place fundamentally instead of just trying to undo all the damage."
Other superstar musicians to be featured on the album include Nancy Sinatra on End of the World, Dave Stewart on Man to Man, Peter Gabriel on Curtains, Maroon 5 on The Air I Breathe and Alanis Morissette on 20/20.
Lynch is famous for his distinct style of filmmaking, which has been classified as a genre in its own right.
His most celebrated works include his supernatural TV show Twin Peaks and the films Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive.
