Super Bowl half-time honour for The Who
Posted on 27th Nov 2009 11:42 to category Band / Celebrity News
Veteran rock band The Who have been selected to play at the Super Bowl half-time show.
The band will be seen by a televised audience of more than 150 million viewers in the US, with their performance at the sporting showpiece on February 7th 2010 also set to be broadcast in more than 230 other countries.
Although only two members of The Who's classic line-up, electric guitar player Pete Townshend and vocalist Roger Daltrey, are still alive, they are still regarded as one of the world's best live acts.
They are also one of the most influential acts in rock history, something which has been recognised by Gibson, which has named an acoustic guitar after Townshend.
Despite that, Townshend is probably better known for using a Rickenbacker guitar or Fender Telecaster, particularly during his infamous instrument-smashing days.
Playing at the Super Bowl half-time show is regarded as a real honour in the US and The Who follow in the footsteps of U2, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen in playing at the event, which will take place in Miami.
