Former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable has died.
The 40-year-old musician - who was sacked from the band in 2003 - was found dead at his home in Aberdare, South Wales this morning (07.06.10)
Emergency services arrived at 5am and said the cause of death was unknown but it is believed to have been following a suspected drinking binge.
Police have confirmed they are now investigating his sudden death.
Stuart had previously spoken of his heavy alcohol and drug use, but insisted he had curbed his wild ways in recent years.
His devastated mother Mabel Cable said: "Stuart has travelled all over the world with the band and I have worried myself silly.
"He is now settled down and then this has happens. It has not sunk in yet."
The rocker's brother Paul has appealed for privacy to allow the family to grieve in peace.
He said: "The family has no further comment to make at this stage. It is in the hands of the police."
Fellow Welsh musicians Manic Street Preachers are among those who have paid tribute to Stuart.
They issued a statement which read: "Whenever you met Stuart, you always walked away with a massive smile on your face. Such a gigantic personality which was reflected in his drumming. He really will be missed. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends."
Stuart's new band Killing For Company were scheduled to perform at the Download festival in Donnington Park, England, this weekend.
