Sting to rework songs of The Police with the help of orchestra

Sting has joined forces with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to come up with new versions of his classic songs.

Sting has announced plans to rework the songs of The Police with the help of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a set of forthcoming live shows.

The singer told Billboard he will be playing the guitar and harmonica during the gigs, which are taking place across Canada and the US in June and July.

He said that new arrangements have been worked out for 40 songs, including tracks from his solo career.

Sting stated that he was keen for the songs to be fully reworked, rather than having "the orchestra just sitting behind me sawing whole notes on a pop ballad".

"I wanted the orchestra to be a very important rhythmic element to the music," he added.

Earlier this month, Sting performed at the Earth Day concert in Washington DC – an event that aimed to put pressure on political leaders to do more to tackle the issue of climate change.

Other performers at the event included John Legend, The Roots and Passion Pit.
