Stevie Wonder to have Hard Rock birthday
Posted on 23 Mar 2010 16:30 to category : Music News

Stevie Wonder is to mark his 60th birthday by headlining this year's Hard Rock Calling music festival.
The R'n'B legend will play the Saturday night of the event on June 26 and although he actually reaches the landmark age on May 13 plans are underway to get the expected 50,000-strong crowd at London's Hyde Park to sing his classic hit 'Happy Birthday' to him.
Stevie wrote the song in 1981 to campaign for the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. to become a national holiday in the US.
The 'Superstitious' singer will be supported by Jamiroquai, James Morrison and Corinne Bailey Rae, who admits she is thrilled to be playing on the same bill as her idol.
She said: "I have been lucky enough to watch him play from the side of the stage before and it was amazing. it's a real honour to be chosen to support him."
The other two nights of the Hard Rock Calling festival are being headlined by Pearl Jam and Sir Paul McCartney.
Paul - who duetted on the track 'Ebony and Ivory' with Stevie - admits he can't wait for his show.
He said: "My last show of 2009 was in London at the 02 Arena and we had a great night. I hope that this summer we can have an even bigger party in Hyde Park."
