Aerosmith guitar player Joe Perry has added fuel to the fire of his ongoing dispute with Steven Tyler by suggesting the band's lead singer had an audition to perform in Led Zeppelin but was turned down.
According to Perry, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham were attempting to reunite Led Zeppelin back in 2008 but lead singer Robert Plant had refused to take part.
They turned to Tyler but he reportedly turned up to an audition without knowing much of the group's back catalogue and rehearsals became "shambolic", reports Classic Rock magazine.
The group decided they had no option but to turn him down, Perry stated.
"Page felt really awkward about the audition, but ultimately it was a group decision," said the Aerosmith electric guitar player, who is currently searching for a new lead singer for the band.
Earlier this week, Mary J Blige revealed details of a special cover of Led Zeppelin track Stairway to Heaven that will appear on her new album.
Her take on the song features Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, electric guitar player Steve Vai and American Idol judge Randy Jackson.
